Keywords are the major part of the SEO as it is the thing by which we can make our site be highlighted or visible in front of people and make people known about our business.
As keyword is the word enter by user for their search. And google display the result with the exact match or around matched words to the entered query. And if our site has such words related to the query and with that if the quality content , then our site will show in the top results provided by google.
