Default content management solutions, editing a website for a non-techie?

Hello,
I recently saw someone use some system to edit a website using a "content management system". Basically, they logged in to an admin page and were able to type into a nice box or upload pictures to change the webiste.
I am making a site for a friend and would like to make it as easy as possible for them to make edits. What exactly was that person using? Are there any well known and simple solutions to accomplish this?

Thanks.
Any open source solutions?

i would suggest http://phpnuke.org/
PHP-Nuke is a news automated system specially designed to be used in Intranets and Internet. The Administrator has total control of his web site, registered users, and he will have in the hand a powerful assembly of tools to maintain an active and 100% interactive web site using databases.

You can find simple or complicated CMS, but if you're new to this field, you can use simple CMS with low cost. Here I add some good & cheap CMSs

Big Medium is a website editor (or "web content management system") that lets you manage entire websites from your browser. Unlike other content management systems, Big Medium is aimed at web designers and their clients—not developers or CMS ninjas. No programming kung fu required.

For web designers, Big Medium offers design freedom and doesn't impose cookie-cutter layouts. If you bring basic to intermediate HTML/CSS know-how, Big Medium can manage just about any design you throw at it.
