![]() | I know it sounds pretty stupid, but for english I am writing a book and might be submitting it to a publisher. I want to write one thats like a book on questions that make you think...sort of like a joke book. Can I use funny questions i find online in it..because you can't really 'copyright' a question (e.g, can you cry under water?) Thanks, serious answers only please. |

![]() | Everything above sounds just about right. But remember that you don't have to cite something that is common knowledge. |

![]() | Gotta check the copy right laws of which these cites may have. |

![]() | As long as you are not cutting and pasting something word-for-word you are not only legally but ethically entitled to it. When I do something along those lines, I compose rough shorthand outlines of the material then write the finished product from those notes. In that process, the material filters through two levels of translation and that is more than sufficient to qualify it as 'original' work. Technically, these words I am writing right now are my property under copyright the moment I hit the 'enter' button and if you cut and paste this entire paragraph without identifying me as the source, you are plagiarizing my work but you can describe what I write without citing me as a source and you can even adopt phrases because I cannot copyright the 'idea' of describing copyright as "the moment I hit the 'enter' button" for example. So, you can cut and paste to a specific extent limited to phrases (in which case, you are not literally 'cutting & pasting' but just adopting a phrase you like) and you cut and paste an entire sentence such as a question as long as it arguably constitutes a public domain, but the one thing you can't do is cut and paste entire paragraphs without at least identifying the source. |

![]() | As long as you cite your sources it is completely fine. I highly recommend citing them in order to avoid any possible legal blunders. Many web pages have supposed copyrights on them, and if the copyright is real then you can get in serious trouble if they aim to slap a lawsuit on you. |

![]() | I suppose it depends on where you get the questions from really - if it is an offical website of a comedian for example then yes you probably would need copyright but if it is just from a forum or webpage then you wouldn't need any copyright. Hope this helps. |

![]() | I guess it calculates on where you acquire the questions from actually - if it is an offical web site of a performer for example then yes you believably would call for copyright but if it is just from a forum or web page then you would not demand any copyright. |

![]() | You can't really be sure who outnumbers who around here. Well, with the exception of JD. |

![]() | I strongly recommend to reason to avoid any possible legal errors. Many pages should be on their copyright if it is true then you can get a lot of trouble. If their goal is to you a slap in the face litigation.
