I need 5 fiction; 4 non fiction; and one poetic book. This is an assignment in my 5-8 literacy teaching methods.
Preferably for a male.

Terry Pratchett: The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents
and
The Bromeliad Trilogy (which could count as three)

These are great books, and, although totally accessible to kids, not only for kids. Mr. Pratchett is one of the best writers around.

Aside from those four, though, I can't help you. Most kids' books are crap.

the twilight series, that's 4 fiction books current and i see kids that age reading them all the time. i read them and they are age appropriate. not sure one the poetry or non fiction. and the 5th fiction i vote for sundays @ Tiffany's by james patterson. its a sweet love story and nothing dirty or vulgar that would be bad for that age group.
