I'm not sure exactly how much you can explain with those, most are pretty self explanitory.

Consumer Trust: You never know who runs that .com site and how well run they are.

Lack of Human Contact: Really links with the above, if you cant see the person you cant trust them.

Delivery Issues: I'm not even sure if my house is on the map...

International Legislation: I'm at a loss for this one.

Product Description: Just like the first one, if you don't know and trust the person who's to say that what they're describing is accurate?

Security Issues: Hackers, phishing scams, virus's, etc.

One of the biggest drawbacks of e-commerce is that many people can not be satisfied with the virtual experience of negotiation and purchase of products being even thousands of miles just by seeing her photo.

Agree with you. We all want exactly what we saw. But there is some unexpected things, for example, the supplier may provide different replenishment without telling the company who do e-commerce timely.
But i don't think it is the biggest drawbacks. Because in our company, if the customer tell us that he or she receive the wrong item, they can take pictures and send to us, we can send the right one or refund the money back to our customer. i think it can do great help to cope with the disputes.

If the customer tell us that he or she receive the wrong item, they can take pictures and send to us, we can send the right one or refund the money back to our customer. i think it can do great help to cope with the disputes.

* There is no guarantee of product quality.
* Mechanical failures can cause unpredictable effects on the total processes.
* As there is minimum chance of direct customer to company interactions, customer loyalty is always on a check.
* There are many hackers who look for opportunities, and thus an ecommerce site, service, payment gateways, all are always prone to attack.

A big disadvantage I have found is when buying something from a site I have visited in the past. I have totally forgetten the login id that I chose and it refuses to set up a new one as the email address is already registered and offers to send a password reminder if I enter the (forgotten) userid.
On the other hand for sites I buy from regularly it is great to have not only contact details but also special delivery instructions remembered.
On the whole I would be in favour considering the number of problems that I have seen from missing confirmation emails in the past. But under the following conditions:
1. Use email address as the id.
2. Do not require login before filling the basket.
3. Prompt to enter password or create account at checkout while capturing email address.
4. Have full tracking on line so that customer can view the status of the order through to despatch.
5. Explain clearly that you are asking for login so that they can view the progress of their order at any time of day or night.
