Default Problems with royal mail online postage (ebay sales)?

Ok. I started sending out items using their online postage system as i thought it would save time. I've now had two items go missing out of around 50 (quite high), and has resulted in me having to offer refunds. I believe the buyers when they've said it hasn't arrived.

Is this a normal missing rate for online postage?

Can royal mail trace these items as there is a special anti-fraud barcode?

I realised now that i can't even claim against these items as i have to have had a certificate of postage for them.

I have reciepts for other items that i've sent the normal way though aroudn the same time. I'm extremely tempted to write the addresses on these reciepts and claim that way as i've had to offer about £80 in refunds for two items when i was lead to believe that it was quite a secure service.

I do feel a little naughty about the idea of it but i've literally NEVER had an item go missing via standard delivery in my life and feel a little cheated that i can't even make a claim!

Send all your items by recorded delivery...You will get a slip for tracking the item and you will know if it has been delivered.....In your listing state that you will not take responsibility for items lost in the post.... Then...if something does go missing send the customer the tracking number and let them trace it or take it up with the Royal Mail.

it sounds to me you should go back to shipping from p.o and getting your proof of postage
ive sold about 700 items online in the last 12months and supposedly lost 2 items in both cases made a claim with p.o and got my money back in which i refund the buyers to positive remarks.
i would say it sounds like your a good honest seller and despite what denzie says you are responsible for chasing up lost mail i say this because i bought 2 things which were sent recorded and couldn't claim only seller can do this otherwise both parties could claim on same item.

as for sending recorded well i hate this service it gives you no extra insurance it doesn't track item only at postage and arrival of house, and often have to trek down the sorting office to sign for my £2 cd ,the only good thing is that pay pal support it as proof of postage
if i wanted to spend a extra £1 on postage like recorded i would spend it on enhanced compensation which gives you insurance of a £100
