kind of licenses do I need? hi, I want to open a online store with yahoo small business. I want to know what kind of licenses do I needed to operate this business legally? Here is the detail information about my business plan.

1. It is a home based business.
2. I will be the only person working; I am not hiring other people.
3. I am living at New York City.
4. I will be selling gifts or other items, but not food or drink.

Do I need to following licenses? How n where to get them? Are there any additional licenses needed?

1. Business license? (Do I need to form a company? like something with inc, at the end?)
2. wholesale license?
3. Some sort of business tax ID number?
4. Any other???

Well i'm not positive on the licensing in New York, but this is what i'm thinking you will need to do.

You will need to file for a state business license under Sole Proprietor.

Depending on how New York operates you may also need to get a City business license from where the business will be located. (your home city).

Then once you have your state license you can get a free tax ID number.

Other than that....i think you should be alright. Make sure to file your taxes though! I would tell you to just get quickbooks and do it yourself. Or you can also find a Tax Professional that can do them for you. Since you are a small business they usually dont charge very much...since it wont be too involved.
