Default Why are some links on ReddIt.com "dofollow," while some are "nofollow"?

The latest SEO trend is to link to high PR sites with "follow". Any low quality sites (or new low PR sites) a "nofollow" is in order. Supposedly you can be penalized (sort of) for linking to low quality sites, or you just pass along some link juice to them. This keeps spammers in check.
