I'm looking for a good freeware backup software that is capable of creating an exact image of my C:\ partition. And I mean copy everything: Master Boot Record, system files etc. so that I could restore my partition w/o reinstalling Windows or probably just boot from another HDD.

Additional requirements: support encryption & compression, no restrictions on transfer speed.

You are going to have to check the small print to see if these suggestions meet all your requirements about encryption and compression but I have tried both, both work well - and both let you create recovery cds

Backup imaging motion can be hardly used to backup specific files and folders. Since no question, the file system, there is no way to distinguish areas that are "important" for the user and what not. Therefore, it must be a full backup which costs more time and disk space.

These are some of the key features of backup software and the most important part is free. So why threats such as spyware, malicious code attacks due to this important free backup software, hardware failures, etc.
