its very annoying and i'm not sure how to change it so that when i press enter the cursor goes down only 1 line. anyone no how to fix it?

Look up "line spacing" in your Word help files

have you made sure that the spacing is set to single? if not, go to paragraph and under spacing make sure it says single, not double. that might help. (:

My guess is that you do not have double spacing on.
Check that you do not have double-spacing on.
Look for a button on the toolbar that looks something like

? ____
? ____

except it has four horizontal lines instead of two.

Those on the left are supposed to be up and down arrows. So when you click on it make sure it says 1.0 or single spaced etc.
